THAT the Committee recommend Council direct staff to request the applicant consider the following nine recommendations when completing the project. 1. Lower the datum of the concrete porch deck to 1” – 1-1/4” below the bearing of the stone threshold of the front door (lower than the French door sills) to avoid partially submerging the sill in concrete and risking its long-term durability. 2. Separate the new porch concrete slab from the heritage masonry (brick and stone) walls with ½” thick bitumen-impregnated fibreboard (“Tentest” or alternative) to stop salt migration from the concrete into the heritage masonry. 3. Treat the heritage brick for 9” minimum above the new slab for the full width of the porch with a hydro-phobic solution to protect the soft brick from saturation and spalling from splashing rainwater (Use Protectosil CHEM-TRETE 40 VOC or alternative; do not use a “sealant”). 4. Protect the new concrete deck edge 1-1/2” to 2” beyond the retaining wall face on 3 sides, with a drip edge cut into the concrete, to prevent water runoff dripping Page 5 of 9 Built & Cultural Heritage Advisory Committee Minutes for July 3, 2024 Circulated to Council July 23, 2024 onto the stonework below and staining, to protect the overall appearance of the heritage building. 5.
